Just Look @ The Birds!
Surrounded by trees, every morning, I have the pleasure of waking to the melodic sound of birds outside my window. Now depending on one’s “fascination with sleep,” one could interpret this concert of nature as everything but melodic, especially if operating on a few hours of sleep. Yes, a bird is just a bird to the natural eye and ear – but once your eyes have been opened, I mean truly opened, you can expect to see and hear things differently, and birds are no exception. It does not matter if you get up right away, lay there in wonder, or if you turn over to go back to sleep, the birds have no chill, they just keep on chirping.
Be still, and know that I am God! (Psalm 46:10)
Even in something as simple as listening to birds sing in the wee hours of the morning, if you are still long enough, you can hear the voice of God speaking clearly than ever before.
In Matthew 6:25-26, Jesus teaches about money and possession. In this passage of scripture, He says, “That Is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life-whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to Him than they are?”
So instead of focusing on the fact that my sleep has been interrupted or anything that tries to steal my joy, I rise in gratitude, with an expectant heart knowing there is a message for me in each chirp I hear.
So it is with each of us, it really does not matter what storms we go through in this life: sickness, disease, famine, hunger, loss of loved one(s), damaged relationships, job loss, IRS audit, debt to the ceiling and don’t know where the money’s coming from, you name it - If God cares about the birds, then we have to know that He cares about us too! God knows exactly what we need, even before we do.
So why worry?
Whatever you are harboring, cast it on the Lord for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Seek the Kingdom of God above anything else, live righteous, and our Father in Heaven will give you EVERYTHING you need - Just look @ the birds.
